Prof. Dr. Jan Pieter Krahnen teaches Corporate Finance at the Goethe University Frankfurt and is Director of the Center for Financial Studies (CFS), an independent research institute, which is now part of the Universities House of Finance. His exploratory focus is risk management and the risk transfer between financial institutions and capital markets. Lately he delved into causes and lessons of the financial crisis. Jan Pieter Krahnen was part of the Issing- Commission, acting in an advisory capacity for the preparation of the G-20 meetings.

To enhance the dialog between representatives of the German financial world, economic science and economic policy we invited a selected group of senior managers to meet Prof. Dr. Krahnen in February 2010 at the Union International Club in Frankfurt.

Wolfgang Proissl is the Chief Correspondent of the Financial Times Deutschland`s Frankfurt bureau. Mr. Proissl is specifically responsible for reporting and commenting on monetary policy, Eurozone developments and international finance for the newspaper and its affiliated magazines. Before coming to Frankfurt he spent five years as Financial Times Deutschland`s bureau chief in Brussels. In the late nineties he was part of the founding team of the new publication and became its first Foreign Editor in Berlin. Last year Mr. Proissl was on a sabbatical leave. He wrote an essay on Germany`s stance during the Greek crisis for the Bruegel think tank and went to the US as a World Fellow at Yale University.

In order to support and enhance dialogue between policy makers, market makers and medias, we invited Mr. Proissl for a speaking engagement at the Union International Club in Frankfurt in March 2011.

Since 1991 Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Reinhard H. Schmidt is Professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt, where he represents International Banking for research as well as device. His exploratory focus of the last years is the comparison of banking – and financialsystems of industrial – and developing countries.

We invited representatives of the German financial economy for a dialogue with the academical world in the Union International Club in Frankfurt.

Dr. Francesco Papadia is Director for Market Operations for the European Central Bank since June 1998. Before joining the ECB, he was Debuty Head of the Foreign Department of Banca D’Italia and Economic Advisor at the Directorate General II (Economic and Financial affairs) of the European Commision.

We invited a selected group of senior managers from leading Real Estate Funds to the Union International Club in Frankfurt on October 19th 2010, so Dr. Papadia could give a presentation to support and enhance dialogue between policy and market makers.

Dr. Francesco Papadia is Director for Market Operations for the European Central Bank since June 1998. Stephan Freiherr von Stenglin is since August 2006 the Alternate Executive Director for Germany at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. After his studies of national economy at Göttingen Unversity, he began his professional career at the German Bundesbank in Frankfurt. From 1995 to 1999 he was the representative of the Bundesbank in Italy and Financial Attaché of the German Embassy in Rome. Before his delegation to Washington DC Mr. Freiherr von Stenglin was Debuty of International Affairs at the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt. Since August 2011 he is president of the Hannover administrative center of the Bundesbank.

We invited senior managers of the financial world representing the German economy to meet Mr. von Stenglin as a representative of international economic policy at the Union International Club in Frankfurt in September 2010.

With Beatrice Weder di Mauro we continue our series “Open a dialog”. Mrs Weder di Mauro is member of the “German Council of Economic Experts” since June 2004 und took Axel Weber’s place within the “Council of five wise men” when he became president of the German Central Bank. Since 2001 she has held a professorship at the University of Mainz. The main areas of research are international economic relations and international financial markets.

This time with our series we brought together a small group of senior managers of the local financial industry with Mrs Weder di Mauro at the Union International Club in Frankfurt to enhance the dialogue between representatives of economy and scholarship. The open dialogue was an inspiration for all attendees. We were happy about the interesting expert discussion between Prof. Weder di Mauro and the guests. Especially in these times, rich of challenges, we consider intensive information exchange of particular importance and value.

The European Central Bank appointed Mr. Ignazio Angeloni as Advisor to the September 2008 Executive Board. Mr. Angeloni has conducted an open and direct dialogue with the leading members of the German capital market community right from the beginning.
In fact, Mr. Angeloni is rejoining the ECB. He had already held senior managerial positions in the ECB and the Bank of Italy before joining SACE SpA as Chairman and acting as Director for International Financial Relations of the Italian Ministry of Economy. Mr. Angeloni, a graduate of the universities of Bocconi and Pennsylvania, has published extensively in the areas of monetary politics, banking and financial markets as well as European integration.

In order to open a dialogue, we have introduced Mr. Angeloni to a selected group of senior managers from the domestic financial industry. They were invited to the Union International Club in Frankfurt on November 3rd 2008.

Dinner for the “Eighth Annual Handelsblatt Convention for Private Equity” at Restaurant Seehaus. AHC sponsored the Handelsblatt Private Equity Convention with a full table at the restaurant ‘Seehaus’ in Munich. Present was, among others, Prof. Dr. Michael Mirow, who was responsible for strategic planning at Siemens from 1991 to 2002. As of 2002, Prof. Mirow has been engaged in work as a management consultant and serves on the Board of Directors and Advisory Boards of start-up companies in the field of high-technology. He has authored scores of publications focused on management organization, globalization and innovation. Enclosed you will find two contributions from Prof. Mirow: “The building of management systems” and “German companies in the contest of value systems”.
